Periodontal Disease – Gum Disease Treatment

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum Disease Treatment is a threat to your oral health. Our mouths are full of bacteria. These bacteria, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless “plaque” on teeth. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque. Plaque that is not removed can harden and form bacteria-harboring “tartar” that brushing doesn’t clean. Only a professional cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist can remove tartar.

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum Disease Treatment

The longer plaque and tartar are on teeth, the more harmful they become. The bacteria cause inflammation of the gums that is called “gingivitis.” In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing and flossing, and regular cleaning by a dentist or dental hygienist. This form of gum disease does not include any loss of bone and tissue that hold teeth in place.

When gingivitis is not treated, it can advance to “periodontitis” (which means “inflammation around the tooth.”) In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form “pockets” that are infected. The body’s immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Bacterial toxins and the body’s enzymes fighting the infection actually start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums, and connective tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.

Treatments in Periodontal Disease

At Phuket Smile Signature dental clinic, gum treatments performed by our gum dentists or periodontists include:

Gum Treatment - Deep Cleaning

Deep Cleaning

Deep Cleaning

The dentist removes the plaque through a cleaning method called scaling and root planing. Scaling means scraping off the tartar from above and below the gum line. Root planing and deep cleaning in quadrants gets rid of rough spots on the tooth root where the germs gather, and helps remove bacteria that contribute to the disease.

Deep Cleaning and Root Planning is used to treat and prevent gum inflammation, gum recession and gum diseases.

Gum Treatment - Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal surgery might be necessary if inflammation and deep pockets remain following treatment with deep cleaning and medications. A periodontist may perform flap surgery to remove tartar deposits in deep pockets or to reduce the periodontal pocket and make it easier for the patient, dentist, and hygienist to keep the area clean. This common surgery involves lifting back the gums and removing the tartar. The gums are then sutured back in place so that the tissue fits around the tooth again.

Gum Treatment - Crown Lenghtening & Gingivectomy

Crown Lenghtening & Gingivectomy

Gum Treatment - Dental Crown

Dental Crown

Crown Lenghtening & Gingivectomy

Some people have a lot of gum tissue around their upper teeth. Dentists call this “gummy smile.” This also can be treated with crown lengthening or gingivectomy. It also can happen when a crown or filling falls out of a tooth and there is decay underneath. To place a filling or crown, dentist needs to expose more of the tooth. This is done by removing some gum tissue or bone with crown lenghtening or gingivectomy

Gingivectomy is the procedure whereby excess gums is removed. Crown lengthening is done when a tooth needs to be exposed more above the gum line.

Gum Treatment - Gum Grafts

Gum Grafts

Gum Grafts

Gum recession is the process in which the tissue that surrounds the teeth pulls away from a tooth, exposing more of the tooth or the tooth’s root. The most common method is cut and removed the gum from the selected area. Then, the gum will be stitched to the gum tissue surrounding the surgery site.

Crown lengthening and gingivectomy is done using local anesthesia. How long it takes will depend on the number of teeth that need treatment. Even if only one tooth is involved, gum surgery typically includes neighboring teeth, too. That allows the tissues to be reshaped gradually. If both bone and soft tissue are removed, the procedure will take longer than if only soft tissue is removed.

The periodontist will make cuts that will pull the gums away from the teeth. This will expose the roots of the teeth and the surrounding bone. In some cases, simply removing a little gum tissue will expose enough tooth for your dentist to place a crown or filling. However, in most cases, the periodontist will need to remove some bone from around the roots of the teeth. Once the periodontist has exposed enough tooth, the surgical area will be washed with sterile salt water and the gums will be stitched together.

Gum Treatment - Bone Grafts

Bone Grafts

Bone Grafts

Bone Grafting is a way to replace or encourage new growth of bone or gum tissue that had been destroyed. A technique that can be used with bone grafting is called guided tissue regeneration, in which a small piece of mesh-like fabric is inserted between the bone and gum tissue. This keeps the gum tissue from growing into the area where the bone should be, allowing the bone and connective tissue to regrow.

Root Canal Treatment – Endodontic Therapy at Dentist Thailand

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is commonly done to resolve toothaches and sensitivity in teeth. Root canal treatment entails the removal of the tooth’s pulp, a small, thread-like tissue in the center of the tooth. Once the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal.

Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Why is Endodontic Treatment or Root Canal Treatment Required?

Endodontic treamtent is used to remove damaged, diseased or dead pulp within a tooth root. Once the pulp is infected or dead, if left untreated, pus can build up at the root tip in the jawbone, forming an abscess. An abscess can destroy the bone surrounding the tooth and cause pain and toothaches.

The most common causes of pulp damage or death are:

  • A cracked tooth
  • A deep cavity
  • An injury to a tooth, such as a severe knock to the tooth, either recent or in the past

Root Canal Treatment Procedure

Root canal treatment consists of several steps that take place over several office visits, depending on the situation and severity of the infection These steps are:

  • First, an opening is made through the back of a front tooth or the crown of a pre-molar or molar tooth
  • After the diseased pulp is remove, the pulp chamber and root canals are cleaned, enlarged and shaped in preparation for being filled. If more than one visit is needed, a temporary filling is placed in the crown opening to protect the tooth between dental visits.
  • The tooth is then observed and monitored for any symptons of continued infection
  • The temporary filling is removed and the pulp chamber and root canal permanently filled. A tapered, rubbery material called gutta-percha is inserted into each of the canals and is often sealed into place with cement.
  • In the final step, crown is usually placed over the tooth to restore its natural shape and appearance. If the tooth is very broken down, a post may be required to build it up prior to placing a crown.

General Dentistry – Tooth Cleaning & Scaling | Thailand Dental

General Dentistry - Teeth Cleaning & Scaling

General Dentistry involves professional checkups by you’re dentist so as to maintain teeth and gums by general dental treatments including:

General Dentistry

Teeth Cleaning & Scaling

Teeth Scaling is a procedure for the removal of tartar that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine toothbrushing.

Teeth polishing targest to remove stains over teeth from extrinsic stains such as coffee or tea drinking and wines. Teeth polishing also shines teeth surfaces.

Professional teeth cleaning, teeth scaling and polishing is recommended to be done bi-annually.

Teeth Extraction

Teeth Extraction

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, your dentist in Phuket will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other treatment. If however the tooth is too damaged for repair, tooth extraction or tooth removal would be recommended. A very loose tooth also will require extraction if it cannot be saved.

Most simple extractions can be done using just local anesthetic). For our more anxious patients, you are able to request with our Phuket dentists for anti-anxiety medication to help you relax during a tooth extraction. During teeth removal, you can expect to feel pressure, but little or no pain.

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are normally done in filling a cavity. Dental fillings may be made from

  • amalgam fillings
  • composite resin fillings

At Phuket Smile Signature dental clinic, composite resin fillings are done and Smile Signature dental clinics is an amalgam-free clinic.

Once all the decay is removed, your dentist shapes the space to prepare it for the filling. Your dentist in Phuket may put in a base or a liner to protect the tooth’s pulp.

For bonded fillings, this is etch (prepare) with an gel before placing the filling. The composite material fills in the etched holes as the dentist places the filling. Bonded fillings can reduce the risk of leakage or decay under the filling. Bonding is generally done with composite fillings.

Decay is not the only reason you may need a filling. Other reasons include:

  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Teeth that are worn from bad habits, such as nail-biting, tooth grinding (Bruxism) or using your teeth to open things

Checkup and Consult

During an bi-annual checkup, you’re dentist does a standard physical check on any possible cavities in teeth.

A large panoramic x-ray or small s-rays may be taken if you’re dentist feels further investigation is required for the area.

Airflow

Airflow teeth polishing uses water spray jets relative to conventional dental brushing in polishing teeth.

Airflow teeth cleaning is suited for individuals that may not like the vibration experience during teeth polishing.

Why General Dentistry?

General dentistry are done to prevent or treat disease states of the oral cavity. During you’re recommended bi-annual checkup, your dentist uses instruments, tests, radiographs and clinical expertise to diagnose potential or existent disease states and pathologies.

Porcelain Veneers | Dental Veneers | Teeth Veneers | Dental Veneers Cost

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry in which a shell or layer of tooth-colored porcelain or composite is placed over the facial surfaces of your teeth to correct worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, discoloration and chips or cracks.

porcelain veneers

porcelain veneers

Types of Dental Veneers

Phuket Dental Veneers - Composite Veneers

Composite Veneers

Composite Veneers

Composite Resin Veneers are also sometimes known as dental bonding or direct veneers.

Composite veneers are normally used for single tooth restorations or simple smile makeover cases. The advantage of composite veneers is that is may be completed within a short period of time directly over teeth.

Composite veneers however will need maintenance over time and can chip more easily then porcelain veneers.

Phuket Dental Veneers - Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are more appropriate solutions for severe cases involving dullness, wear, discoloration, extensive chipping, cracking, spacing or uneven teeth.

Porcelain Veneers are also called indirect veneers made by a dental technician in a dental laboratory. Porcelain veneers are normally the most popularly smile makeover treatment option, is stain resistant and does not chip as easily compared to composite veneers.

Phuket Dental Veneers - Lumineers

Lumineers

Lumineers

Luminerers are a type of very thin porcelain veneers.

The most commonly used porcealin veneers is called IPS Empress Veneers, Lumineers are another brand of wafer thin porcelain veneers.

Lumineers veneers are sent to an overseas laboratory to be made and may thus take oover 2 weeks for delivery compared to IPS Empess veneers that are done within days to one week depending on case complexity.

Why Teeth Veneers?

Phuket Dental Veneers - Dental Veneers

Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most or even all of your cosmetic dental issues, including:

  • Worn enamel: Over time, the thin, hard translucent substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn, and dulled.
  • Discoloration: It may be natural or result from a genetic predisposition. However, it often results from consuming soft drinks, tea or coffee; smoking; using certain medications, etc.
  • Wear and tear: Teeth naturally wear down as people age. Aged teeth are more likely to have chips, cracks or a generally uneven appearance.
  • Genetics: Certain people are born with abnormal spacing between their teeth that widens with age.
  • Uneven teeth: Uneven teeth can result from tooth grinding or general wear and tear.

The veneers could be your option to reach the goal of an aesthetic smile.

Dental Veneers Procedure

Dental Veneers treatment involving tooth preparation is irreversible, so it is important that you and dentist discuss any alternatives that provide the same results but with minimal to no removal of tooth structure. If you and dentist decide that veneers are the best option, the next step involves a thorough review of treatment details, including preparing your teeth for your specific veneer procedure and what will be necessary for them to look and fit correctly.

There are several steps in the dental veneer procedure. First, your dentist will likely administer a local anesthetic so you will be comfortable during tooth preparation and placement of the veneer. Your natural tooth is then prepared by minimally reshaping it with a small handheld rotational cutting device called a bur to provide the best fit. Burs come in various shapes and sizes and allow precise and minimal shaping of a tooth prior to veneer placement.

If your treatment involves direct composite resin veneers, dentist then will apply the appropriately shaded composite to your teeth, shape the material and harden it using a high intensity light. Additional layers of composite may be applied to build the veneer to the correct shape, length and form for your smile. When all composite is placed, the veneers will be finished and polished using burs and polishers to create a vital and lifelike smile.

If your treatment requires porcelain veneers, dentist will make an impression of your teeth from which a mold of your mouth will be made. This impression will be use for fabricating the veneers in dental lab.

During the veneer placement appointment, dentist will remove the temporaries and place your final veneers. Dentist also will evaluate and adjust the newly placed veneers to ensure the optimal fit and color.

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening lightens teeth and helps to remove stains and discoloration. Tooth Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look simply without any invasive procedure.

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Phuket Smile Signature Dental Clinics is one of Thailand’s top provider for in-office Zoom Advance Teeth Whitening (USA) treatments. Our dental group is certified for using Genuine Zoom Teeth Whitening Gels and Machines and our clinics follow proper standards of treatments. Many dental clinics within the area may offer reduced tooth whitening prices by using other third party gels whilst advertising for Zoom Whitening or share whitening gels and kits that we advise patients to be wary about when looking at Zoom Teeth Whitening Promotional Costs.

You’re dentist should always do an actual check in determining if teeth whitening is indeed suited for you’re case or advise on other treatment options if there are contra-indications or if you have a tendency for sensitivity in teeth.

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening

Why Cosmetic Teeth Whitening?

Every day, a thin coating (pellicle) forms on the enamel and picks up stains. Tooth enamel also contains pores that can hold stains.

The most common reasons for teeth to get yellow or stained are:

  • Using tobacco
  • Drinking dark-colored liquids such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine
  • Not taking good care of your teeth

Tooth whitening is most effective on surface (extrinsic) stains such as the above. Aging also makes teeth less bright as the enamel gets thinner and the dentin becomes darker.

It is also possible to have stains inside the tooth (intrinsic) stains . These are called intrinsic stains. For example, intrinsic stains can be caused by exposure to too much fluoride as a child while teeth are developing. Other causes include tetracycline antibiotics. They can stain a child’s teeth if taken by a mother during the second half of pregnancy or by a child who is 8 years old or younger. Teeth are still developing during these years. Trauma may also darken a tooth. Intrasic stains may not be resolved by teeth whitening but may help to lighten teeth color prior to having veneers or crowns done.

In-office Cosmetic Teeth Whitening Procedure

  • A checkup is first done to check that you are suited for teeth whitening
  • Pre-treatment tooth shade comparison is done on existing teeth color shades
  • You’re dentist may ask if teeth cleaning, scaling, polishing or airflow is opted at this stage (that is separately charged) and is optional
  • Your dentist then applies a substance that covers and protects the gums around the teeth.
  • The tooth whitening agent or whitening gel is placed on the teeth.
  • After the whitening agent is applied, the dentist will shine the light on your teeth.
  • Post-treatment tooth shade comparison is then done to check the number of color shades improved
  • Post care instructions are given out on how to care for you’re newly whitened teeth

Home Bleaching Cosmetic Teeth Whitening Procedure

If your teeth are badly discolored, your dentist may suggest that you continue the bleaching process at home for a few days or weeks.

For in-home whitening, your dentist will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth and will make custom mouthpieces to fit you. The mouthpiece needs to fit well. A close fit helps the whitening agent remain in contact with your teeth.

At home, you will fill each mouthpiece with a whitening gel your dentist provides. You will wear the mouthpiece for several hours every day. Many people achieve the amount of whitening they want within a week or two. However, you may need to wear the mouthpiece for four weeks or longer.

Whitening is not a permanent solution. The stains will come back. If you smoke or consume a lot of staining foods or drinks, you may see the whiteness start to fade depending on lifestyle and oral hygiene care. If you avoid these sources of staining, results may not last longer. Re-whitening can be done in the dentist’s office or at home. If you have a custom-made mouthpiece and whitening agent at home, you can whiten your teeth as frequently as you need to.
